Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the design, implementation, training and maintenance of the SQF Food Safety systems, including sanitation, GMP & HACCP programs, as well as food defense, food fraud, allergen control, microbiological testing, and various certifications. This role has overall responsibility for Quality Assurance and Food Safety functions of the company and will act as the company’s lead SQF Practitioner, overseeing the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF Certification.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development, implementation, review and maintenance of the SQF System, including food safety fundamentals and take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the SQF System
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable food laws & regulations 
  • Manage, reassess, and ensure compliance with the HACCP plan, pre-requisite programs, and SQF programs as necessary
  • Communicate to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF System
  • Provide in-depth analytical support in the areas of food safety, sanitation, and quality in support of the Company’s strategic goal
  • Accept, hold or reject products, in-process samples, and finished goods
  • Conduct mock recalls and traceability 
  • Participate in the preparation and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all tasks related to Food Quality and Food Safety
  • Monitor and review all plant paperwork for compliance, as needed and applicable
  • Manages facility Pest Control Program and work with pest control company to prevent pests from entering the facility as well as following through on resolution
  • Review production and quality control records; ensure that corrective actions are taken as needed
  • Maintains food safety by reviewing hazard analyses; ensuring critical control points and preventive measures are effective; evaluating critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures
  • Identify and lead food safety, SQF and HACCP training programs for team members other key employees
  • Assist with specification development and revisions
  • Conduct internal audits and maintain the auditing of all quality parameters within the facility including incoming supplier specifications, production, warehousing, shipping, etc
  • Analyze non-conformities and quality problems to determine root cause and implement corrective action
  • Develop and implement processes to drive quality improvements/food safety
  • Keep updated on federal and state regulations and codes as it relates to company performance
  • Follow-up on internal and external food safety audits & report and track corrective actions

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field
  • Proficiency with using computers and MS Word and Excel
  • Experience and Certification in HACCP and SQF
  • Strong, effective written and verbal communication
